The above slideshow depicts the daily behavior chart used to communicate with a student's parents. The student also responded well to the color coding- she understood what it meant when she earned a green/yellow/red. The visual feedback was useful in discussing her behavior both with her and in communication with her parents. While filling out the behavior chart I consciously made the effort to share positive experiences as well as the disruptive behaviors.
At the beginning of the school year, the entire class worked together to create these two posters. This was a meaningful experience that allowed students the opportunity to think deeply about the upcoming year and what would be expected of them as well as what they could expect from their teacher. These posters were then hung on the wall for everyone in the class to refer back to during the year.
This desk layout facilitates whole class discussions as well as partner work.
